I found this post on Justin Taylor’s Blog to be informative and practical in our pursuit of growing in the grace and knowledge of Christ through His word.
This morning I was reminded of the music and especially of the lyrics of the songs that were presented last night at the Easter musical The Risen Christ, which presented the Gospel through music. The one song that always speaks to my heart is; “Speak O Lord” by Keith and Kristyn Getty from the album “In Christ Alone”. So this morning I pulled up the lyrics (shown Below) and prayed through them asking the Lord that he would do these things in my heart as I read the word. God was merciful and gracious and the time spent reading was sweet. I just changed the pronouns to a first person singular ( From “we” to “I” or “Our to “My”) you get the idea! So I pray that this might help some of you, as it did me, to prepare your hearts to hear from God through his word.
Speak, O Lord, as we come to You
To receive the food of Your Holy Word.
Take Your truth, plant it deep in us;
Shape and fashion us in Your likeness,
That the light of Christ might be seen today
In our acts of love and our deeds of faith.
Speak, O Lord, and fulfill in us
All Your purposes for Your glory.
Teach us, Lord, full obedience,
Holy reverence, true humility;
Test our thoughts and our attitudes
In the radiance of Your purity.
Cause our faith to rise; cause our eyes to see
Your majestic love and authority.
Words of pow’r that can never fail—
Let their truth prevail over unbelief.
Speak, O Lord, and renew our minds;
Help us grasp the heights of Your plans for us—
Truths unchanged from the dawn of time
That will echo down through eternity.
And by grace we’ll stand on Your promises,
And by faith we’ll walk as You walk with us.
Speak, O Lord, till Your church is built
And the earth is filled with Your glory.
A Prayer for fruitful Devotions
